Tu Kab Khao is a popular Thai restaurant in Phuket town serving great southern Thai food and a selection of dishes typical of Phuket. The restaurant is located next to the stunning Sino-Portuguese building of Kasikorn Bank in downtown Phuket. Tu Kab Khao is the name given to a small closet every Thai house had a long time ago to keep the food safe from ants and flies for the next meal. The feet of that closet were placed in a bowl of water to keep the ants away.

Tu Kab Khao, set inside an old heritage house, is decorated in traditional Penang style with distinct areas; the front area has a homely feel while the Portuguese-tiled rear room offers more privacy. Live music adds to the mood.

The food is authentic Thai, Southern Thai, and Peranakan food, some dishes can be very spicy and pungent. Popular at Tu Kab Khao is the crab in a curry with thin rice noodles (sen mee gaeng poo), fish in turmeric sweet and sour spicy sauce (gaeng som pla), king prawns in tamarind sauce, and pork belly stew (moo hong phuket). For dessert try the home-made coconut ice cream or one of the numerous Thai desserts.
