The India outpost of the New York chain is located at the Leela Palace (Indian’s most expensive hotel) in Chanakyapuri, Delhi, and by far the most upmarket Japanese restaurant in India. Megu reinvents the Japanese traditional cuisine while the authentic Japanese flavors are preserved. All dishes are prepared using a novel grilling technique called sumibi aburiyaki which uses a special bincho-tan charcoal and bold ingredients which are imported from Tsukiji market in Tokyo. The rooms are elegantly decorated room which gives diners a sense of glamour and luxury; It is arguably the best-looking East Asian restaurant in India.

Sakana pepper roll- Creamy, moist and served with a Japanese mayonnaise, this is a must-try.

The good-looking, glamorous fine dining destination boasts five distinct spaces: a large private dining room; a stunning main dining area; a more informal room; a sushi counter; and open-air seating on the porch and on the lawn creating a quiet but wonderful ambiance.

The service is professional and knowledgeable and the presentation is top-notch.

FOOD

Begin your meal with the fresh hikiji salad which is fresh; Mushroom and seaweed rub shoulders with edamame and cherry tomatoes accompanied by sweet sesame sauce. Wagyu beef on a hot stone and pan-seared lobster; Avocado tartare, the sushi and sashimi platter; the tofu caprese. For mains, the grilled sea bass is lightly tossed in a teriyaki sauce; Grilled King Salmon did in Chan-Chan style; The Shira Ae (spinach, tofu, and sesame); Another winner is where the flavourful meat of “the duck confit on a bed of barley risotto” is offset by the low-key creaminess of the barley; Salmon steak with tomato miso. The crispy asparagus coated with rice crisp is a must-try for Vegetarians. End your meal with signature sorbets (berry, mango, and strawberry); yuzu tart, or wasabi cheesecake which leave a lingering taste of Japan on your tongue. There is an extensive wine menu that exceeds 600 labels and even 60 varieties of potent and delicious sake from Japan.

The excellent food, attentive service, and exotic ambiance make the experience unforgettable and place Megu Restaurant firmly at the top, where it belongs; at the top. Dining here might cost you to break the bank but as far as Japanese cuisine in the city goes, it’s unparalleled in quality and flavour.
