PROFILE

Grand Hyatt launched StraitsKitchen back in 2004, after a six-month quest to recruit the best local food and hawkers on the island to ensure that the food, ingredients and techniques were fully authentic. Chef Nelson Wong works closely with more than forty chefs to showcase Singapore’s multicultural food heritage through the buffet of local dishes that are prepared a la minute at the restaurant’s live kitchens.

MUST TRY

Beef Rendang, Wok-Fried Crab and Assorted Nonya Kuehs.

AMBIENCE

StraitsKitchen almost feels like a hawker centre, with the chefs working away at their woks, tandoors, grills and steamers, and with the air filled with the fragrance of cooked food, but it is certainly more comfortable. Collect your food from your chosen station, take a seat, and enjoy the colour and bustle, for the restaurant becomes very busy every day.

SERVICE

This is largely self-service, buffet style, but the professional Grand Hyatt team are always there, are helpful, and ensure the tables are quickly cleared ready for the next diners.

FOOD

An a la carte is served in addition to the buffets, including during breakfast, for those who do not want a complete buffet meal. There really is everything available here that you could wish to find in one of Singapore’s famous hawker centres, prepared at five live show kitchens, and including a huge selection of desserts and freshly squeezed juices.

PRICING

Breakfast buffet S$40, Lunch buffet S$56, children 5-12 years S$29, dinner buffet S$66, children S$36
