Located on the fourth level in the IFC Mall, Shikigiku has a view across the harbor, while inside the Zen calm of the décor is based upon Edo traditions with gold and brown tints and delicate artworks. Japanese-decorated private rooms are very popular at Shikigiku so book well in advance.

Service is traditionally Japanese, prompt, and unobtrusive, with staff well-versed in the food and the sake listing.

FOOD

It is a joy to see the art of tempura so well performed, the delicacy of the batter encasing prawns straight from the tank, along with toyamaken himekodai fish, Wagyu beef with sea urchin, Kagoshima ice vegetables, and other rarities. The Kaiseki set meals use seasonal ingredients, presented on dishes and in boxes that are tiny pieces of art. Teppanyaki dishes are best enjoyed at the teppanyaki bar, where the artistry of the chef can be enjoyed.

For a pan-Japanese experience, one that is done well on every front, Shikigiku continually delights. The price too is a pleasant surprise, at least in the context of most Japanese restaurants in Hong Kong, and a lunch or dinner here is relatively soft on the wallet. Open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. Set lunch, a la carte menu and free parking are available.
