Entering Gaddi’s is always an occasion as Hong Kong, and the rest of the world, have been wining and dining at Gaddi’s for over 65 years. Today, Chef Xavier Boyer serves a “modern-classic” French culinary style with fresh European ingredients and curated flavours.
Gaddi’s opened in 1953 and is named after a former general manager of The Peninsula, Leo Gaddi. The cuisine is classically French haute but with light and inventive European influences. This was the first restaurant in Hong Kong to create a chef’s table, where diners sit beside the kitchen viewing a tailored menu being prepared.
MUST TRY: Kristal caviar and oyster on cucumber jelly.Baby zucchini stuffed with Mediterranean spiny lobster. Confit lemon from Menton.
Take the dedicated lift to the first floor and entering Gaddi’s is always an occasion. The decor evokes old Hong Kong and the hotel’s original 1928 architecture, with two six-foot crystal-and-silver chandeliers from Paris, Tai Ping carpets, and a Chinese Coromandel screen dating from 1690. Some of the collectibles were brought from Shanghai in the 1920s, including the silver Christofle candelabras and a number of fine art pieces, amongst them Portrait Of The Artist, by George Chinnery.
From the impeccable maître d’ through to the impeccable serving staff, and the occasional visit from the impeccable chef, the entire service at Gaddi’s is intended to make the guest feel both valued and at home.
Chef Boyer is from Montpellier in the south of France but spent much of his early childhood in the Caribbean, where his mother owned a restaurant. Xavier is a culinary artist who creates masterpieces with food and a firm believer in the less-is-more school of thought, preferring to let the flavours of his ingredients shine by keeping his dishes deceptively simple. His inspiration for becoming a chef came from Joel Robuchon, working at L’Atelier in London, New York and Taiwan. Although some classic dishes cannot be left off Gaddi’s menu, Chef Boyer’s breadth and depth of experience brings new dimensions and serves up distinctive interpretations of classic dishes with a modern twist.

Gaddi’s has always been a Hong Kong experience that should not be missed, and has entertained presidents, billionaires, and golden-era film stars. There is a live band and a small dance floor. The restaurant is for any occasion, and every visit is a special one.
