Duangporn Songvisava and Dylan Jones are the leaders in the resurgence of authentic Thai cuisine and Bo.lan is a zero carbon footprint restaurant, which includes a vegetable garden, a system to recycle waste, water-filtering in order to reduce carbon waste.
Bo.lan has been recognised for many years as one of the best Thai restaurants in Bangkok. Famed for initiating the concept of fine dining Thai cuisine in the city, you can sample age old recipes made from the absolute best ingredients of mixed spices and flavors but presented with the flair of European haute cuisine.
MUST TRY: Set of salad of Phang Nga Chicken, Wing Bean and Grilled Banana Blossom with Chilli Jam, Coconut Based Soup Sustainable Seafood, Stir-fried Prawns with Paddy Oat Leaves and Red Curry of Phang Nga Chicken with Young Jackfruit.
Bo.lan has a relaxing feel with an enveloping dark wood, glass and leafy environment.
Staff were very polite and apologetic and give description of each meal served even though you hardly understand them. The waitresses might not entertain your suggestion if you request them to reduce chili as the spicy taste should be kept as authentic Thai.
The menu list is limited but indeed an exceptional quality. The food can be a bit spicy but the staff there suggest different ways to make you feel good about the spicy food. The menu is not flexible for the customers’ preferance of taste especially when it comes to chilli. Each dish is exceptionnally creative and the experience stands out from the standard local fare, which is already at a very high level of standard. The menu changes on a quarterly basis and incorporates fresh produce taken from sustainable sources across the country, with some herbs grown onsite. Bo.lan offers a plant based ‘Botanicals Menu’ which is simply delicious and a must visit for vegans in Bangkok.
Prices are pretty high and wine prices are probably exaggerated though the food at Bo.lan is definitely tasty but more suitable for foreigners on a trip to discover authentic Thai cuisine.
