Akira Back is an award-winning Korean-born, American-raised chef who is redefining Asian cuisine. At his restaurant at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Bangkok he serves a blend of Korean-Japanese-American dishes.

Having made his name with a Vegas-based, Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant where celebs liked to hang out, Akira Back has an empire of 10 eponymous restaurants across the globe. Signature dishes that reflect Akira Back’s distinctive “east meets west” style include fresh tuna pizza, AB tacos, baked crab hand rolls and 48 hours wagyu short rib.

The dark furnishings, black marble and counters and soft lighting combine to create a sleek, exclusive ambience. The Shinto ropes in various length forming themselves as Neo-classic style arches add to the Asian feel. Akira Back is divided into three areas: the main dining room, a sushi bar with an open kitchen and an omakase (chef’s selection) bar, four private dining rooms with spectacular views across the Bangkok skyline through floor-to-ceiling windows. The atmosphere in the restaurant is quite fancy yet very comfortable. Located on the 37 floor of Bangkok Marriot Marquis on Sukhumvit, the restaurant is framed on either side by large windows providing spectacular views of the city nightscape.

The service of Akira Back Bangkok is top notch and the staff are knowledgeable in particular Akira Back’s Bangkok General Manager, French born, Charles-Henri Kaderabek. The Staff would serve the dish with the food description and story behind each menu item. Attention to the details from the chef and the staff is something very noticeable.

Guests can choose from an à la carte selection or a combo set comprising sushi and sashimi. The food is amazing and delicious reflecting the creativity of Chef Akira Back. Don’t miss out on some of the delectable dishes like the umami-rich and crispy-chewy AB tacos. Get the tuna pizza for its sheer novelty which is made up of crispy tortilla slices layered with an umami aioli and draped with thin slivers of fresh tuna. From Sake to wine, the whole gamut of alcohol is there to complement your dishes.

The restaurant offers a selection of the finest sake, including Akira Back’s own branded spirit – a clean, beautiful sake produced by the famous Nanbu Bijin brewery in southern Japan’s Iwate Prefecture, which dates back more than 100 years. The beverage menu also includes a curated wine list, plus Japanese, Korean, American craft beers, and those seeking the ultimate accompaniment to their meal can even sample the world’s most expensive sake.

The costs to dine at Akira Back Bangkok is on te higher side, even if you use the Club Marriott card for a discount. However, the quality of food and service justify the price. Akira Back Bangkok sets itself apart from the great number of Assian eateries in Bangkok with this modern style of inventive gastronomy which make it one of the best Japanese fusion restaurants in town.
